Thinking of getting one for the summer hols? Now is the time to do it give yourselves the maximum amount of time prior to going swimming, although the majority of pools are excellent in terms of cleaning some abroad can be a bit suspect , the last thing you want is an infection on your holidays!!

Cleaning a tongue piercing

How is it going today? Thanks for the emails we are trying our best to be honest and give good advice without going over the top. A recent conversation brought up the topic of using various creams and lotions for after-care, which brought to mind the use of mouthwash after a tongue piercing .

About six months ago we were helping a lady who had her tongue pierced while on holiday she could not get the piercing to settle and was experiencing some real irritation and general swelling well after what would normally be expected. The piercing was well placed and looked fine we changed the bar over, as the one originally used was a bit tight , we would not normally do this but as the piercing was done abroad we could not advise the lady to return to the original studio.

We spoke for some time then the problem became apparent , over cleaning, the lady was using mouth wash, full strength up to six times a day. What did the studio tell you ? “they did not give me any after care” I was just doing what I thought was best. The issue was she was not giving the bodies natural healing process any time to do its work, we gave her some general after care a few days later everything was just fine, the moral is use a good studio and do your home work before you plunge in.

Micro Dermal Piercings

Hi, how are you today? Micro Dermals a flash in the pan or a legitimate piercing, it would seem to be all good with few drawbacks. It is just over one year since we completed our first micro during this time we have built up a excellent clientèle many of whom have several micro dermal piercings completed.

Like many other piercings there are sites on the body which do not tolerate micro dermal we now have an extensive knowledge of just where they can be placed successfully and the likelihood of rejection. If you have any questions drop us a line we will be glad to advise.

Have a good day

Cheap body jewellery

Summer time is here at last, hope it is warm with you today. The first peek of sun brings a rush for belly button piercings, we have already had several bookings above the norm. Don't forget though the healing time on this piercing is anywhere up to six months and you should not change the bar before this. We only use highly polished titanium in our piercings so it is unlikely you will have any issue with this in terms of allergy the piercing should settle in nicely in the the healing period .

I will give you a tip regardless of where you live and who does your piercing don't use cheap body jewellery in place of the bar you were pierced with, you will put successful healing in jeopardy by using the cut price jewellery often sold in big stores and very importantly don't change the bar over before the healing period.

I know you may have used that type of jewellery before with no issue , from experience we often find where problems occur with piercings people well tell us they changed the bar just before the problems started and more often than not the bar was not purchased from a body piercing specialist.

Freezing Piercings good or bad?

It's good to have you back with us, just lost a customer today because we don't freeze and some studios do. I know we cover this else where on the site but I thought it was worth another mention. Only those medically trained can administer anaesthetic by injection which is the way it should be. The application of freezing sprays is simply not worth the grief, it brings no end of issues during the application and more importantly during the healing process,we think the suspicion is that studios who don't use the spray are cutting corners or trying to save money , we can assure you this is just not the case the spray is £3.50 for thirty applications hardly worth loosing custom over. You need to trust your studio on this one we are honestly trying to look after you.

You Tube Piercing Videos - A chance to look behind the scenes

Hi, how are you today? I spent some time on You Tube last night having a look through all those piercing videos, to be honest I ran out of time before I had seen even a quarter of them.

It is really good to see how many different systems studios use for Piercing, nearly every person had a slightly different method of piercing all based on the same fundamental technique.

Here is a tip if you are considering getting a piercing in a featured studio

Look at the studio surrounds and how the piercer is working, think about hygiene and most importantly cross contamination , for example once the piercer has washed their hands and put gloves on (which should be new) do they then touch any surface which could be contaminated, their face – a door handle - a drawer handle etc.

Look at how they work under Scottish regulations it is a breach not to use a disposable paper couch cover for every client – You will be amazed how many studios do not!

There are even a few videos where the piercer asks for help from people watching the piercing, hardly best practice!

Anyway I could go on, if you have the chance look beyond the needle and the attitude you may be surprised what you can see.

Piercing after care

It's been a good start to the day sun is out and everyone looks more relaxed. Two phone calls this morning regarding after-care for piercings interestingly the piercings were done at another studio.

In our experience the vast majority of studios give good clear advice on how to look after your piercing, most will give a written after-care sheet explaining what to expect and how your piercing should be cared for during the healing process. Some studios sell after-care solutions, we do not, we are yet to find any over the counter solutions that are better than the regime we specify which will cost you a few pence.

Makes you think though, why would any studio fail to tell you how to care for your piercing it is only in their interest and most importantly your well being. It is always a talking point with us how piercings can be done at one studio then clients phone another for advice, perhaps they were just not that comfortable with the first studio?

Jewellery used in piercings

It’s been one of these weekends; we had a really successful day looking for new ranges for our Jewellery shop more about that later in the week.

I had a call from Susan on Saturday who was concerned about being allergic to the metal we use during the piercing process. It’s a good point, many people have issues with piercings through no fault on there own due to the quality of the piercing jewellery used. We only use highly polished British made titanium jewellery our supplier provides us with a certificate from a testing facility which proves the quality of the jewellery and it’s suitability for use in initial piercing. You are welcome to see this document at our studio.

It's Friday and we are working hard to keep the wheels moving , we are looking for your contributions for our new blog -any funny stories or experiences you have had when getting a piercing we will be updating our site over the next few weeks to bring it up to date , would you like any special sections or informations pages?

Welcome to our new blog we will be updating this from time to time with news and events , look forward to hearing from you .
